Our advocacy

We're People First York Region, a self-advocacy group run by and for people with disabilities. We meet regularly to discuss important issues and work towards positive change in our community. Learn more about our advocacy efforts and how you can get involved.

Regular meetings

We believe in the power of collective action. Our meetings are where we identify key issues, develop strategies, and support each other in our advocacy efforts. Join us to make your voice heard. We meet twice a month Once online and once in person

We always have a zoom option and alternate the day between Wednesdays and Thursdays

Key issues

We are currently focusing on advocating for:

  • Funding: Ensuring adequate financial resources are available for programs and services that support people with disabilities.
  • Housing: Promoting access to affordable and inclusive housing options for all.
  • Food Cost: Addressing the rising cost of food and advocating for food security initiatives.

Success story: 5toSurvive

The "5toSurvive" campaign is a great example of our advocacy in action. Through persistent effort and collaboration where multiple advocacy groups, agencies and families put pressure on the government
